Pete Gillett - Tutor

What made you decide to become a Tutor with Valkyrie?

I really wanted to change my career path to something I felt passionate about, I have a natural inclination towards helping people and having worked in the engineering industry for more than a decade it was a positive direction for me to develop my own skills and to help others in the process.

Why do you like working for Valkyrie?

I really enjoy going out to employers and meeting with their learners at different stages of their apprenticeship. It is rewarding for me to help them gain understanding and expand on their personal and professional knowledge. I am also enjoying having the freedom to manage my time, applying my skills in the learning environment and also back at the office developing resources.

What makes Valkyrie different to other training providers in your view?

With all of my colleagues I have seen a real integrity and commitment to deliver high quality learning in their sessions.

What key advice would you give to someone thinking about training with Valkyrie?

Make sure you are serious and if you are, don’t wait! We will do all we can to facilitate your growth and development.

What have been the highlights of your time as a Valkyrie Tutor to date?

Its early days as yet but so far, the biggest highlight for me was when I had been explaining a measurement technique to a young learner – when they ‘got it’ their eyes lit up and they became super-animated – I got such a sense of achievement from this that I was grinning from ear to ear. We also had an Ofsted visit recently and I have to say that being part of a team who achieved a really good report was immensely satisfying!

What are your personal and professional aspirations?

Professionally, I am aspiring to develop my communication skills so that they can enhance the translation of my personal experience in industry to the learning experience in the classroom. I am undertaking the T.A.Q.A. qualification which I hope will lead in to more advanced teacher training in the future. Personally, the most challenging aspiration in my life right now is that my wife and I are trying to purchase a home together. After this, I am keen to learn a new language and I would also like to have an adventure holiday in a hot and exotic place!
